AI Frontier
Hands-on tests of AI tools and models, with the numbers and the pitfalls. Only things I have actually run.
Free, No-Login NVIDIA SimReady Assets: 2,500+ Physics-Ready OpenUSD Models, Tested
NVIDIA's SimReady Central Library ships 2,500+ OpenUSD assets with joints, collision and mass baked in — no login, CC-BY-4.0, commercial use allowed. I reconciled the four conflicting asset counts, tested the China mirror, and ran the whole download-to-import path on my own machine. The mirror works; my Blender build broke at the last step.
800 Links in My Bookmarks, Fewer Than 20 I Actually Open: The 15 I Kept
A site worth recommending isn't about how cool it looks, but whether you'll still open it for the 20th time six months from now. Grouped by what you want to do, here are the sites I really use every week — plus three I built myself at the end.
Real-Time Subtitle Translation in the Browser: Open It and Go, Audio Never Leaves Your Machine
AudioScript is a free, open-source desktop tool that turns system audio into bilingual floating subtitles. I built a web version of that capability — recognition and translation both run in the browser, no install, and audio never leaves the device. Tested on 17 seconds of English audio: transcription was near word-perfect and the translation read naturally. Links to the online version and a fast desktop download inside.
A 27B Model in 5.9GB: How Ternary Quantization Stays Standing
A 27B model with weights stored as only three values — -1, 0, +1 — shrinks to 1/9 the size of full precision and still claims to retain 98.2% of its capability. How does it not collapse? What state is it actually in? Here's the full picture, including my own benchmarks on this machine.
5 Open-Source Browser Games You Can Play on Your Phone: No Download, No Sign-Up
5 open-source browser games — no download, no sign-up, no app install. **Open them on your phone and play.** Each one comes with a direct link and Chinese guides, 15 articles in total.
Edit PDFs Without Installing Anything: PdfCraft's Real Limits, Tested
Zero install, files never leave your machine — PDF editing in the browser. I ran the main path of "open, render, read the UI" end to end; I did not click through every merge/split branch. The verdict: the page-rearranging tasks are officially rated usable, while encryption, digital signatures, OCR and XFA forms should be avoided for now. And the Chinese UI is 100% tofu blocks.
Why Your SVG Exports Look Blurry: 8 Pitfalls Tested One by One — viewBox, pt/px, 1x/2x, Fonts, Filters, Half-Pixels
The same SVG goes blurry on another machine: font fallback, a missing viewBox, pt/px mixed up, filters silently dropped. I reproduced all 8 pitfalls with three rasterizers — Chromium, resvg and cairosvg — with minimal repros and measured numbers.
I actually ran PhotoCraft: what a 69,000-star free 'Photoshop' can really do
I downloaded the official web build, v0.11.1, and actually ran it: creating a new document and opening a real PSD with layer styles both worked. I also hit a trap the official docs never mention — a missing font in a PSD triggers a silent fallback and wrecks the layout. Verdict: good enough for everyday lightweight retouching, not ready for professional deliverables.
13 free open-source Adobe alternatives: which ones actually work in 2026
Seven apps open-sourced in one night on September 30; half a month later the count is 13. PhotoCraft went from 17,800 stars to 61,000 — but the team's own README says roughly 20 tools are still missing and it should not be used for professional work. I checked all 13 one by one.
Shoot a Blockout First, Then Hand It to AI: My AI Video Workflow After 17 Iterations
Ask AI for a fight video and ten prompt rewrites give you ten different results. The fix isn't writing better prompts — it's shooting a blockout in Blender first: geometry owns space and time, language owns style. After 17 iterations the artifacts hit zero. Here is the full workflow, the parameters and a reusable checklist.
One Person, One DGX Spark: The AI Experiments I Got Working (Checklist + Numbers)
Video generation, speech and knowledge base, music, websites, quant — five AI experiment tracks, all producing reproducible numbers on a single DGX Spark. This is the lab archive: the key figures for each track, plus one pitfall I hit.
This is a selected English edition. The complete archive lives on the Chinese site: AI 前沿(中文).
